Volunteer fire department

The Johanngeorgenstadt Fire Department was founded on June 16, 1869, as the Turner Fire Brigade. In 1894, its name was changed to the Johanngeorgenstadt Volunteer Fire Department. The current department has 40 members—32 active firefighters and 8 members of the honorary division. There is also a youth fire department with 16 members, including 4 girls.

The Johanngeorgenstadt Volunteer Fire Department is located at two sites. One fire station is in Neustadt, and the other is in the Oberjugel district.

Youth fire department

Children aged 8 and older can join the Youth Fire Brigade. After filling out an application form—available from Fire Chief Schleichert or Youth Fire Brigade Leader Götz—we assess whether the child meets the necessary requirements.

In the youth fire brigade, children learn through sports and games how to use the equipment that will be required in their future service. They also quickly learn that without order, discipline, and good teamwork, they cannot win competitions.

Retirement and honorary department

Even after their active service, none of our men and women are forgotten. They have the opportunity to talk about the old days in the retirement and honorary department. Over coffee and cake, they also occasionally talk about the missions they have experienced. Of course, they are also welcome to attend honors and meetings.

Fire department association

The fire department association is an independent association and anyone, not just members of the fire department, can join. The association's activities are the annual bonfire on April 30 and the erection of the maypole on May 1, which is always attended by many spectators. There is also the annual "Open Day", where the association presents itself and naturally looks forward to many curious visitors.
