Johanngeorgenstadt - town of the candle arch

Nature, tradition, sports and leisure activities as well as a modern town administration - that's what makes Johanngeorgenstadt so liveable and lovable. Situated at an altitude of 700 - 1,000 m above sea level and right on the Czech border, our town is known as the border town and second highest town in Saxony.
Thanks to this location, we have ideal winter sports conditions with an extensive network of cross-country ski trails, a double drag lift and toboggan slopes. Our ridge trail leads all the way to Schöneck in Vogtland. In summer, a well-developed network of hiking trails in peaceful natural surroundings, easy to challenging mountain bike trails and various climbing opportunities offer recreation and relaxation.
What makes Johanngeorgenstadt unmistakable is the largest free-standing candle arch and the world's largest Christmas pyramid. They are emblems of our Ore Mountain traditions and customs, which we actively live and cultivate. At the same time, they are closely linked to the centuries-old mining history that has shaped our town since it was founded in 1654.
Johanngeorgenstadt offers its residents a varied club life, numerous leisure activities and a diverse range of events and cultural activities. Schools, day care centers and nursing homes guarantee good care for our youngest and oldest citizens. Our town council will be happy to help you with any queries you may have.
See you soon in Johanngeorgenstadt.
Good luck!
Your Mayor André Oswald
