Intergenerational Award has begun

Ideas sought for strong cooperation between the generations in Saxony

Saxony, May 11, 2026

How can social cohesion succeed at a time when the realities of life are diverging and generations meet less and less often? This question is decided in everyday life, in municipalities, companies and neighborhoods throughout the state. This is precisely where the Saxon Generation Award 2026 comes in.

With the start of the application phase, the Saxon Intergenerational Agency is focusing on projects that show how intergenerational cooperation can succeed in practice. We are looking for projects and initiatives that take responsibility for each other and develop viable solutions for a sustainable Saxony. Particularly practical and creative approaches often emerge outside the big cities. Where structures are thinner and challenges are more directly tangible, solutions emerge that strengthen social cohesion in everyday life.

“Intergenerational cooperation is a cornerstone of social cohesion in our society. This makes places and initiatives that foster interaction and strengthen our sense of responsibility for one another all the more important. Whether in a club, a company, or a neighborhood: wherever people come together, valuable connections are formed. The Saxon Intergenerational Award recognizes this commitment, highlights successful examples, and encourages people to find their own ways to foster positive coexistence.”
Petra Köpping, Minister of State for Social Affairs, Health, and Social Cohesion

Companies, universities and educational institutions, municipalities, associations, initiatives as well as organizations and networks from all over Saxony can apply. The prerequisite is a clearly recognizable contribution to connecting the generations and an innovative approach to joint action.

The projects submitted are assigned to six central fields of action: Education and lifelong learning, participation and engagement, life phases and transitions, health and care, digitalization and technology as well as housing and living environment. The evaluation is based on the generation index of the Saxon Generation Agency. An independent jury makes the final decision.

In addition, a special prize will be awarded for projects that develop new ways of dealing with loneliness and strengthen social ties. All prizes, including the special prize, are endowed with 2,000 euros each.

“Our society is under pressure. Different generations are interacting with one another less and less, even though they desperately need each other. The Saxon Intergenerational Award highlights how intergenerational cooperation can succeed in practice and why it is crucial for social cohesion in our state.”
Manuela Thomas, Executive Director of the Lausitz Social Network

The award ceremony will take place on Tuesday, October 28, 2026 in the Buntspeicher Zwönitz as part of the Saxon Generation Dialogue.
